Here are some of the comments received from members of the Kingston Y Penguins.

The Kingston Y Penguins have been an excellent experience for me because it has provided a chance for me to accomplish things that I never would have dreamed of otherwise. For a child with a disability like myself, this has been an amazing opportunity to accomplish my dreamiest of dreams and much more. At swim meets, it has also given me a chance to build up much of my courage, which I had hidden in me for such a long period of time. It has helped me to over come my fear of competing against unfamiliar people! Also, being a part of the team has helped me not to disapprove as much of my disability. I have learned that no matter what I have to go through in life, I know I CAN DEAL WITH IT!!! The swim team has made that happen for me and will continue to for years to come!

The swim team has helped me learn that you can always achieve your goals no matter what happens!

Being a part of the Y Penguins has taught me to challenge myself and focus on my abilities so that I can achieve my goals and dreams. It has taught me that if I work hard, I can do anything I want.

Two years ago, I swam like a stone; currently, I have enough first-place ribbons from disabled and standard swim-meets to completely cover a wall of my bedroom. It has not been a cakewalk, I assure you. There have been many times when I felt it would be infinitely easier to quit while I was ahead. Usually, such thoughts are dismissed as soon as I get back in the pool for another round of practice. When I doubt my capacity to deal with anything life throws my way, a strong voice in the back of my head – Vicki's voice – tells me to keep pushing, I can do it.
